.As long as she could remember, Sydney had chronic constipation. After returning to Minnesota from Argentina, Sydney made a nutrition counseling appointment with Romaine at Nutritional Weight & Wellness because her grandmother and sister had success there.
At her first appointment, Sydney realized that she had become anorexic after living in Argentina where the pressure to be thin, beautiful and perfect are higher—she believes—than in the U.S. Every time she was in a kitchen or near food she experienced “food anxiety”—pacing and feeling nervous. She didn’t want to eat because she didn’t want to get fat. Romaine helped her address her anorexia and taught her how to eat to be healthy and at a normal weight.
Sydney was surprised when Romaine recommended that she eat animal protein. “I had been a vegetarian for a year and the thought of eating meat really bothered me at first. Romaine helped me understand that animal protein was important for me to get better. So I started slowly, incorporating deli meat and eventually added eggs, lamb, chicken and beef to my eating plan. I was amazed at how my body was devouring these foods.”
In three months, Sydney has seen drastic improvements. “Before, I thought the only way to be thin was to starve myself. Now I see that I can eat well and look and feel great! I eat 6 times a day, and I’ve totally changed how I look at food.” Sydney remarked. “Digestively, I’m not worried at all. I used to stress about when and if I was going to go to the bathroom, but now I don’t. I’ve been regular for three months.”
Sydney will be heading back to Argentina for college soon, but this time she’s feeling more confident. “Now I’m armed with the tools I need to stay healthy. I’m looking forward to teaching my family, and eventually my own kids, the healthy, balanced way of eating that I’ve learned.”
