I had been putting up with eczema and painful shoulders, ankles and knees for three months. I went to three doctors for help: my family physician, a dermatologist and an orthopedic specialist, but didn’t get any relief. The prescriptions and cream I was prescribed didn’t work and I was frustrated because my health issues were getting in the way of my workouts and I was losing sleep. I was desperate for a solution. My wife suggested I see Kara for nutrition counseling at Nutritional Weight & Wellness. I had zero faith that addressing my nutrition would work, but thought, why not? I had tried everything else already.
At my first appointment with Kara, she told me she knew she could help me. She had a contagious optimism about the solutions she had to offer and I felt a sense of hope that this might actually work. She explained things clearly so I could understand exactly what I would need to do in order to see results. With this clarity of what was expected of me, I went “all in” with her recommended eating plan, additional dietary supplements and educating myself as much as possible about a gluten free and healthier lifestyle. I’m so glad I did.
My eczema is now gone! What a relief to no longer have itchy patches of skin in the middle of my back—just far enough out of reach to scratch. My shoulder pain, which was my greatest discomfort, is also gone. In fact, my joints feel better all over. I was able to play softball again this past summer (with my shoulder pain, I couldn’t throw a ball). My ability to sleep is much better—no more waking up in the middle of the night due to my shoulder pain. Also, I have found that being gluten free forces me to make better choices of what I eat. I eat healthier now, no more fast foods or unhealthy snacks. Eating this way has also made me more alert and find I that I’m not as tired in the middle of day as I used to be. I feel better about myself because I’m eating so much healthier.
I know that eating this way makes a difference. I was recently at an event out of town where I didn’t eat very healthy. A few days later, my shoulder pain was back. However, after getting back on my eating plan, the pain went away again. It was a nice confirmation that I am making the right decisions and it has helped me to decide that this way of eating is one that I will follow for life.
