I first became familiar with Nutritional Weight & Wellness 13 years ago when I took the Jumpstart Your Metabolism class through community ed. Darlene Kvist was my teacher, and I knew within the first hour of the class that I had to meet with her personally. I scheduled a nutrition counseling appointment with her, and I have to say that meeting with her was one of the best things that ever happened to me!
I own a pet boarding company, Judy’s Pet Care Center, and when I first met with Darlene I was extremely busy with running the business and I just wanted to feel better. I was always tired and constantly had brain fog. I struggled with sinus infections and had been on a lot of antibiotics to get better. On top of that, I was about 20 pounds overweight and wanted to lose the weight and keep it off. I had done the quick-fix type of diet programs in the past where I ate prepackaged “diet” foods. I’d lose the weight, but would eventually regain it all after I stopped eating the prepackaged foods and transitioned to preparing my own meals. There would be picnics, graduation parties and other events…things that can really throw off eating healthy. I’d tell myself, “I’ll do better tomorrow,” but tomorrow never came and the weight crept back on.
At my first appointment with Darlene, she said she was going to teach me to eat like people used to eat. This meant no processed food and instead, eating real food which sounded good to me! I put all of my trust in Darlene and followed my new eating plan diligently.
Within two months I felt like a new person! I had lots of energy—more than I could ever imagine—and mentally I felt so much better with clearer, more focused thinking. To this day I still have tons of energy. I’m almost 71 now and my friends comment about how much energy I have. I was recently traveling in Texas for the winter and was out dancing with my husband three nights a week! My doctor has been amazed at my check-ups that my triglyceride results are only 59—a result that’s much lower than other people she sees that are my age. The weight loss has been great too…20 pounds gone*. I weigh the same as I did when I was in eighth grade! I’m so happy to no longer be a yo-yo dieter, losing and regaining the weight over and over and worrying about the foods I should eat to stay slim. The weight has stayed off for years now because I continue to eat well; and it’s easy because I’m satisfied and don’t crave sugary foods like I used to.
I am so thankful that I met Darlene. I continue to check in with her in the spring and fall of every year. What I learned from her, and continue to learn, is phenomenal. I don’t believe my life would have been nearly as fulfilling as it has been had I not met with her. I learned how to cook, read labels, and really take time out for myself. Health is the number one thing in life. When you feel good, everything is good!
